Kakarikis are natural foragers, so a varied and stimulating diet is essential to keep them happy and healthy. A good quality seed mix and pellets can form the foundation of their diet, but it's also important to include a range of fresh foods to keep things interesting.

Some great options for Kakarikis include:

- Fresh fruits like berries, citrus, and apples
- Leafy greens like kale, spinach, and rocket
- Crunchy vegetables like sweetcorn, carrots, and celery
- Nuts and seeds for added protein and crunch
- Sprouts for a nutritious and tasty treat
- Boiled eggs for an extra boost of protein

To encourage foraging, try placing their food in a dish on the bottom of their cage or hiding it among toys and accessories. This will challenge your Kakariki to search and find their food, keeping them engaged and stimulated.

Tips and TricksTeaching your Kakariki to Talk

1. *Start Simple*: Begin with short, easy-to-pronounce words like "hello," "bye-bye," "nite-nite," or your bird's name.

2. *Use a Positive Tone*: Speak to your bird in a happy, enthusiastic voice. Parrots respond better to lively voices than monotone or whispers.

3. *Find the Right Word*: Pay attention to which words your bird responds to most and use that as your first "training word."

4. *Keep it Interesting*: Repeat words with feeling, but avoid repetition. Vary your words to keep your bird engaged.

5. *Choose a Quiet Location*: Select a distraction-free area and place your bird on a T-stand or in its cage.

6. *Reward Your Bird*: When your bird vocalizes, reward it! Gradually reward correct vocalizations, like saying a food's name.

7. *Social Learning*: Expose your Kakariki to adult birds of the same species to learn their verbal language.By following these tips, you can encourage your Kakariki to develop its talking skills and strengthen your bond with your feathered friend.
